Winneshiek County Pledges $500,000 towards Sunflower Project.

Plans for a new Sunflower Child Care Center in Decorah which would include a Discovery Center similar to Children's Museum in nearby cities have received a major financial boost. Winneshiek County Supervisors on Monday voted 4-1 to promise $500,000 in financial aid to the project.

Details of the financial support still have to be worked out, but discussed was a series of $100,000 payments to the project over the next five years.

The vote Monday (with supervisor Mark Vick voting against) will now be used by Winneshiek County Development to leverage its odds of getting a Vision Iowa CAT grant. That funding is scheduled to be available this month.

Supporters of the Sunflower Discovery Center will also be meeting with a committee of the Decorah City Council on Monday evening to ask for the city's help in funding the project as well.
